Mr Thomas Cawthoru, Nelson's benefactor, on Friday celebrated his 82nd birthday.

Mrs F. Sklenars, a well-known and respected resident of Rongotea, died at the Hamilton Hospital last week.

Nurse. Dons, who has been in Palmerston for some years, is leaving to take over a nursing home in Feilding.

Mr Sam Daw returned to Feilding yesterday after his lengthy stay hi the Palmerston Hospital. He has completely" recovered lies health.

The death is recorded of Mr David Wemyss, one of the pioneers of Marlborough, aged 82 years. He was the father of Mrs Astbury, formerly, of Kimbolton.

Trooper W. H. Hay, of Timaru, of the Canterbury Mounted Rifles, who is on to-day's list of killed, was tho only son of his widowed mother and a nephew of Dr. Guthrie, of Feilding.

Amongst the surprise meetings which took place in Cairo just before the attack on the Dardanelles was that of the brothers Heald, of Feilding. Ono did not know that the other had enlisted until they met in a teashop in Cairo.

A telegram from Auckland states that Mr Murdoch McLean, Mayor ol Mouut Albert., received information that bis son, Rao McLean, who was with the Australian contingent in the Dardanelles, bad been killed in action.

Thomas Mackenzie's appointment as High Commissioner for New Zealand the conference urge upon the Government his reappointment to the position.

Buckridge is attached to A Company, and Liout. J. B. Bennett (son of Mr Arthur Beniiott, of Palmcrston) is attached to A Company of the 2ud Battalion.
