SOUTHERN GRAIN AND PRODUCE.
PER PEESB VBSOCTATION. Christchurch, March 14. The wheat market has been fairly quiet during the week, and few purchases have been made direct from growers. Tuscan is easier than it was last week, but Hunters and Pearl have maintained their values better. "Up to 3s 8d has been given for Pearl at handy stations, but the best price now offered for Tuscan is 3s 6d, while last week at least a halfpenny more could have been obtained. , Growers are still holding firmly on to oats, and as buyers cannot make any advance in the absence of a market, business in this cereal is practically at a standstill. There is likewise little doing in barley, or oatsheaf chaff.
■ The potato market shows'' no change, and £2 10s for forward delivery is all that most of the buyers will offer. At this price a few sales are being made, but growers generally will not sell at present, as the crops that have been dug have not turned out too well.
Onions are again easier, £3 15s to £4 how being paid at country stations. . -;
