Mangaone Riding.—The roads arc in very fair order, although the continuous dry weather and the number of sheep that are being driven on the roads at the present, time tend to keep the fine metal on the roads very loose on the surface; otherwise they are in very good condition. Some little improvment had been done to the drains at Raumai. The new concrete culvert near Stanton's has been completed in a satisfactory manner; all the timber used in the work has been cleared away and carted, for the present, into the Council's yard. Umutoi Riding.—All the roads on the Southern end of the ridng are in fair order, but those farther to the north are very rough, the metal, being coarse, breaking loose with the dry weather. The only possible way to improve these would be to pick the metal up and break it smaller; this would take more time and men than we have to do it. Advantage was taken of the dry weather to get some metal carted on to the eastern end of the Makoura roadj but this work has been discontinued for various reasons. The work Ox metalling on the TJmutoi road north has been going on, the contractor having elected to continue the work at the extra price offered by the Council. The amended plans for the Piripiri bridge are now to hand. UMUTOI RIDING. It was resolved that the action of the Clerk in amending the Umutoi roll in view of the recent extraordinary election be confirmed, and that the Clerk be authorised to amend the various rolls in the ridings as occasion demands. . CORRESPONDENCE. From Michael Spelman, claiming £20 damages alleged to have been sustained through his horse and dogcart going through- the bridge on Palmer's creek, Awahou, on February 22. —Cr. Port reported that about three hours previously someone had driven over the bridge and made a hole and the writer, following, went through.— The Engineer reported the bridge had been repaired. The accident, it was stated, had happened in broad daylight, at about 12 o'clock, and the driver should have been able to see the break. —It was decided to admit no liability. From J. J. Lynch, asking that drainage water passing on to section 60, Mangaone riding, be diverted along the roadside into a stream.—Left to Engineer to report on at next meeting. From Fullerton-Smith, Miles and Cook, asking if the title to a road ; deviation concerning a transaction between J". Jecraies and E. Crane could be put in order to complete the transaction. —The Engineer reported that three plans had been prepared, one of which was for the Deeds Office, and if the firm applied to them they could have the title completed.—lt was decided to reply to this effect.
