SUICIDE.
A QUESTION OF PUBLICATION,
BT BtEOTBIO TELEGEAPH—OOPYBIOFT,
I'EK PRESS ASSOCIATION. (Received March 13, 9.20 a.m.) Melbourne, March 13. At the inquest on two suicides from taking lysol, one doctor was of opinion that the name of the poison in such cases should not be published. Another doctor was of opinion that no reports should be published of inquests on suicides. The coroner (Dr. Cole) in summing up the arguments for and against publication, said the suicidally inclined undoubtedly were likely to be attracted by the particular means of suicide on seeing the cases described in the uress, but if they had made up their minds to commit suicide it was very difficult to stop them. The question was. whether the harm of non-publication was not counterbalanced by the harm caused by publication. If all poisons sold diluted they could still be used for medical purposes. This specially applied to lysol.
