GOLF.

B. B. WOOD, AMATEUR CHAMPION.

PEB PBESS ASSOCIATION,

Wellington, Sept. 23. Ihe New Zealand golf tournament came to a conclusion in splendid "weather, and the links were in splendid condition.

The last two rounds of the amateur championship were played, B. B. Wood (Cnristchurch) defeating H. Wright (Christcliureh) by 6 up and 5 to play. The winner displayed better all-round form, Wright being weak on the greens. At the 18th hole in the first round good work was done by both, and it looked like a half in bogey five, but Wright was laid a half stymie and the dip of the ground being against him, he lost by 6 to 5. Hβ was thus three down at the end of this round, when the scores stood: Wood out 39 in 37, Wright 40—41. In the second round Wright's chances were hopeless at the 12th hole, Wood winning at the 14th by 5 to 6, and the match by 6 up and 5 to play. At the invitation of Sir Joseph Ward, president of the Wellington Golf Club, Lord Islington presented the prizes.

Invercargill Sept. 23. The Invercargill Golf Club's championship was won to-day by J. Cuthbertson. who defeated E. Russell over 3G hclee by 3 up and 2 to play.
