THE OTAKI RACES.

Otaki, Sept. 23. The first day's races of the Otaki Maori Racing Club wero held to-day in cloudy weather and a course that was holding.

Hurdles.—Strathmoira 1, Sleacombe 2, Whimper 3. Scratched: Teotane, Knutsford, Jacky Jack. A good finish. Time, 58 1-5. Silver Cluse fell in front of the stand, and the jockey (Murtagh) had some of his ribs and his nose broken.

Maiden Plate. —Stockade (Jenkins) 1, Courtley 2, Borsil 3. Also ran: Charge, Treakker, Antithesis, Lady Ruby, Poggy, Heather, Bonnio Polly, Yiuieo Doodle, Sir Daniel, Mantlet, Alecto. Won by half a length. Time, imin 7sec.

Te Hiwi Memorial Handicap.—Coolbeggan 1. Big Blast 2, St. Serf 3. scratched, Serenity. Time, 1.47 1-5.
