. Criticism generally on the Australians' performances against Notts (the first match of the tour) is harsh, lie side's showing in considered to be tame and weak all round, with the bowling a little "better than the batting. 'The Nottingham'form, say the ! critics, the visitors have no earthly j -chance- in the tests, and it is -added. ! that Bardsley seems to bo out- of form Whitty's attack is regarded as formidable. (The strain that he developed is not- serious, but is causing anxiety.) M'Laren was held cheaply in the Notts match. The summingup is that the team is an indifferent one. . r> May 9. A number oi newspaper critics suspend judgment on the team. Hie men require more practice, they say, before a true opinion can be passed.
