MONTHLY MEETING TO-DAY,

Tho ordinary meeting of the Kiwitea Count} , Council was held at Kimbolton to-day. Present: Cr.s. H. i'owler (.Chairman), \V. Morton, fc>. Strachan, C. Johnston, A. V. Pearce, C. iUclutyre. \\. P.' Snaw, J.'Mcis oil, and J. J... Bryce. The 'following letters were placed before the meeting: — _ Treasury Department, forwarding sum of Pis, being amount of fees, tines, etc., collected per S.M. Court. ■Mr 11. Galbraith, applying for permisison to ereefc fence on edge of 'litirangi road. . Mr W. L. Grice, stating that as he is not now on the Council he would bo unable to act on committee set up to report re cottage for sale at lU'wa.. , Mr j. E. Hewitt, asking when metalling on road near his property would be done. . Mrs H. D. Densham, applying tor permision to erect a fence on tho roadside on Rewa hill. Messrs Hansen ana Son and others, askin°- to be allowed to complete tne work "of a contractor whom they saiu had left the Dominion. TRANSFER. S. B. AYalte, County Engineer, reported as follows: — In accordance with the resolutions of- the Council I have given orders for the following works to be carried out: Lowering the .Waituna watertables, and repairing the AVaituua culvert. . . . , The work of clearing Ivew road has been delayed' owing to the difficulty in getting men, though the road has been temporarily opened -up. The following is the position of the "contracts let: Mania road, metalling, completed with tho exception of breaking ;' lagoon road, metalling, hall completed'; Titirangi road, formation, completed, work very satisfatcorv: Parorangi roart, wiuenln!?. iive culverts to go in, otherwise complete; Mangamako metal pit road, work well in hand, more than halt the road finished. The concrete work on tho Valley road culvert is completed, and the filling will be proceeded with at once. As I thought at the last meeting, I have not had a chance to prepare the "White Bridge contract, i propose, to do the work this coming week, and call for tenders to close on or about January 8 next. Authorities have ueen received tor the following works: Mangamako road, Mania road, Maiigarere road, Mangapapa road, and Mangahuia road East. I have mclftClcd the two latter in the maintenance contracts, tenders for which are to be considered to-day. I forwarded a copy of proposed metalling specifications to the district engineer for approval prior to getting same printed, and have received m return a new copy which the Public ■Woiks'Department proposes to adopt in all metalling contracts in the future. I beg to submit same for the consideration of the Council. When last in.Mangavreka I interviewed the "Works Committee of tho Mangaweka Town lioard re- the possibility of the Mangawharariki stream bridge being carried away in the event ot the new dam bursting. Though not likely to happen, such an accident would mean the total destruction of the bridge, and I beg to suggest that the Board bo asked to indemnify' tins Council . against such denage occurring to'the"bridge. The willows at Fitton's ford seem to be taking root, and should prove of lasting benefit. With regard to .tho Pourangaki bridge, I have received a letter irom one of the interested settlers stating that the loan application would be issued in a few days. BUSINESS DONE. The following business was transacted at the meeting: —

Mrs Densham's application was granted, subject to the approval of the Engineer. __ Mr Galbraith's request was also met under similar conditons.

The Engineer's recommendation in regard to the county teams was ordered to be carried out.

Crs. Pearce and Strachan, with the Engineer, were appointed to inspect and report on the house at liewn which it is proposed to purchase for a roadman's cottage. The appointment of Mr Sidney Richardson as poundkeeper was eonfirmecl.

Owners of stock which have been reported foiv straying on tho roads are to be.prosecuted,

The Council offices will bo closed from December 23 to January 8.

Permanent men in the employ of the- Council are to bo given a week's holiday, to be arranged by the Engineer, on full pay. The % letting oF~confcracts A T os. 178 and 190 was left in the hands of the Engineer to make the host arrangements.

The following Committees were set up:— -. ' Finance: "~ Crs ■''Morton, Johnston, Strachau, and the Chairman. Works: Crs. Bryco, Shaw, McNeil, Mclntyre, and the Chairman. The Council then adjourned for lunch.
