Mr Havelock Wilson, yi Labour leader in the House of Commons, interviewed on his arrival here, said he hoped the recent maritime strike had secured industrial peace in the JtSritish mercantile marine for a long time to come. He recognisd that the returns alone constituted a splendid victory. It took him two years to organise the strike, and he addressed over a thousand meetings on the subject. Regarding the riots, he said, the action of the troops was quite justified. As to the British sailors, Mr Wilson said they wero better -than ever—a- different type from those of the old sailing ship days, but just as good at work.
