LAST NIGHT'S FORECAST.

(PEE PBESS ASSOCIATION.)

Wellington, May 3. Considerable rain fell last night northward of Kawhia and Napier, but except about the East Cape, where a gale is still blowing, the wind has gone down, and the weather improved to-day. Easterly and south-easterly winds have prevailed in the North Island, and easterly and northerly winds in the South. Present indications are for moderate to strong southerly winds northward of Hokitika and Kaikoura, and variable winds elsewhere. Cool and changeable weather is probable generally, the barometer rising slowly everywhere soon, but only temporarily in the southern districts.
