BOWLING.

CLOSING DOWN THE SEASON

ANOTHER YATEiS FEATHERS

CONTEST,

The 1911 bowling was brought to a close on the Feilding green yesterday. Fine weather prevailed, but the green played somewhat heavy. Still an enjoyable time was spent, and the visitors included players from Gisborne, Wanganui, and Palmerston. Mrs Mason, wlio was assisted by Misses Bartholomew and Bowdein, provided a repast that was more like a banquet than an afternoon tea; and the ladies received the hearty thanks and appreciation of players and visitors. PALMERSTON v. FEILDING.

The Palmerston Club sent up a challenge rink—Shep. Dixon, Nat. Malcolm, J". A. Nash, and J. Young (s) —to make the fifth arid final effort of the season to wiu back the Yates Feathers. The holders—-Mason, Clapham, Stewart, and J. Bartholomew (s) —made a runaway game ot it. The challengers scored only a braco in the first eigjht heads, when tho local rink's score was 19. At the 13th head Palmerston was 9 and tho holders 26. At tho 15tli liead, which was the last one of the five that the challengers scored in, Feildwas 30, Palmerson 10. Owing to the failing light, just after 5 o'clock, the game was closed on the 19th head: Feilding 39, Palmerston 10. There were numerous dead heads, Nash driving with his 1 usual accuracy. But there is nothing in it. He should have taiken example from tho fine driving of Stewart or the beatifu'l running shots of Bartholomew, who fipis'hed up the soason with a splendid exhibition of bowling. Mason led like a general and Clapham, who is at home on a heavy green, played at the top of his form. Young played with great heart against overwhelming adds. Dixon .and Malsolm got some good shots in—but what was the use ot them with a scoring combine 'like Stewart a_d Bartholomew? Included in Feilding's 14 scoring hoads wero a 6, two s's, and three 4 ! s.

The idea of running a Quoits Club during the winter was canvassed some more on the green yesterday afternoon, and tho suggestion caught on. Several more promises to join in and play the winter, pastice were received. It is to be hoped the Club Committee will "further the proposal.
