Manufacturers' Week commences to-niorrow. Over a thousand city shops have arranged to make displays of purely Australian goods in their windows.
The cabmen's boycott of the Melbourne wharves has been removed, pending action by the City Council. The annual report of the Socialist Labour Party expresses satisfaction at the establishment of a branch of the party in Ne.v Zealand.-Acting-Premier Hughes considers that the limitation of armaments and international arbitration should be discussed at the Imperial Conference. The limitation of armaments, he considers, would be the first practical step towards an ideal civilisation, which is slowly and irresistibly coming. The two-year-old Victorian Clydesdale stallion Royal Scotch was solfi for 500 guineas. A train conveying boats to the Bairnsdale regatta (V'ivtoria) caught fire, and before the out break was extinguished three racing boats were destroyed. Sir E. Smith, of Adelaide has presented £1000 to the Commercial Travellers' Association, to form the nucleus of an accident and sickuess insurance fund.
The P. and 0. Steamer Mooltan was quarantined on arrival at Adelaide owing to a case of smaii-pox aboard. The victim is a second-class Australian passenger who joined the vessel at an Indian poit.
The first Marconi inter-Fiji station at Suva has been completed and is working satisfactorily.

A man named Hansen, Avho was crossing the flooded river, was dro.vned. Norfolk Island, April 18. On Monday a surf boat, when landing, was dashed to pieces. One of the crew was badly injured. Melbourne, April 18. Acting-Premier Hughes says that money is being poured forth with a lavish hand by the great trusts throughout Australia for the purpose of fighting against the referenda. At the Stawell pedestria carnival, Devine, Avith 13yds,'Avon the chief sprinting event for a prize of £120 in 12 2-5 seconds. Donaldson, the world's champion, Avas beaten out of place though he ran the distance in even time. Strict precautions are being observed in connection with the outbreak of small-pox on the steamer Mooltan. On the vessel's arrival the passengers Avere quarantined and vaccinated. Those Avho landed at Fremantle have been ordered to report themselves to the health authorities. In a fire in a building at Tylden, two men named Fitzgerald and Angland were burnt to death and severely injured respectively. . _ Brisbane, April 18. The steamer Coblentz brought 102 Chinese labourers for Tahiti.
