BRASS BAND.

THE CONTEST AT "WANGANUI. OPENED LAST NIGHT. PER PRESS ASSOCIATION. _ Wanganui, March 14. The North Island Brass Band* Association's thirteenth annual contest was commenced this evening, when E-flat soprano cornet and B-flat baritone, solos were played. Tlie soprano cornet solo was won by John Trussell (Wanganui Garrison), -with J. Cosgrove (Gisborne City) second, and Thos. Colo (Nelson Garrison) third. There were seven competitors. . The B-flat and E-flat bass solos will be taken to-morrow morning. A garden party will be held in the aiternoon on tiho racecourse. The B-flat cornet solos will be judged m the evening. The weather was very wet tonight.
