Light and Lighters.
The Borough Council came to a, decision last night upon two matters of great aud not so great importance that have boon agitating the minds of imany and not so -many residents of Feilding for some time past. The important item is that of electric lighting and power for the town. The Council has shown commendable promptitude in dealing with tins matter, and there is no doubt ratepayers will prove just as emphatic at the polls in declaring that ample means should be provided at an early date for the efficient lighting of the whole borough. Th© subject of not so great importance decided hy the Council last night was that of taking a poll to provide a Municipal Opera House. A. few residents and every theatrical manager -who has cast longing eyes on the town will feel disgruntled over this decision. It was a foregone conclusion that such o. proposal would have been defeated. Presently residents will begin to feel that Feilding should have adequate Municipal Chambers, in which _ Town Hall must be provided. But there is no general feeling in favour of such an undertaking as a theatre, although dt is a disgrace to the town that the Drill Hall is the best place wo have to offer for public meetings and entertainments. But, for the Council, the way out is a combination municipal building scheme, not a theatre only.
