The Spectator says that whatever Australia and Canada offer will be accepted) with sincere pleasure by the British nation ; but adds that the wordd will not realise the strength of the ties uniting tho various coram!unities of the British Empire until s. moment of perid arrives. The British people were determined that New Zealand's gift should be treated 1 purely as a gift, and in no sense as a relief to the taxpayer. A Dreadnought offered would make this assurance doubly sure.
