THE PIONEER OF A NOBLE ART [BY ELEOTEIO TEJLBSEAPH — OOFTBIGHI.] t [PBB PBBSB ASSOCIATION.] (Received, March 18, 8.6 a.m.) London, March, 17. At a banquet given to Mr. Bert- . ram Mackennal, the Australian, sculptor, the guests included- a number of Australian ex-Governors and artists. Lord Tennyson, ex-Governor of the Commonwealth, who presided, referred to Mr. Mackennal as the pioneer of a noble and individual Australian art yet to arise, which would be the glory of the Commonwealth, and reinvigorate British art. Mr. Mackennal, replying, said that the mystery of the bush, with its vast silences and distances, would some day inspire a great art effort. The Federal Capital would afford an opportunity to create a monument to federation, proving this generation had a full belief in the greatness of 'the nation yet to come.
