REWA.

POSITION OF THE DAIRY INDUSTRY. [our own correspondent.] I I understand that tho prospects of the Rewa Dairy Co. (a proprietary concern) for next season are not too bright, as many of tho farmers in this district Jiavo given up milking aaid have gon-o in for sheep. The output at the factory has been decreasing for tho last tew years on this account, and unless the supply of milk makes an upward movement it looks as if the days of the company are numbered. ( One of the directors informed me the other day that tho Board had decided to call a meeting of suppliers and those interested in the concern in tho Rmva Hall on April 4, at 1.30 p.m., to go into tho matter of future supply. He said that unless a sufficient guarantee was forthcoming the company would have to cease operations altogether. \ Should this drastic step be neces-sa-ry it will mean a serious loss to the district aa a whole. Land values will go down and the smal .holders will iiave difficulty in making both ends meet. It therefore behoves everybody interested in th-e concern to attend the meeting, and do their utmost to put tho company on a better -footing. I hear that Mr Wilson, our factory manager, 'has resigned, having accepted the position of Dairy Inspector at Paeroa, near the Thames. Mr Brooking, the butter maker, has been promoted to tho vacant position for the rest of the season, and if he proves a success I understand he will have a good chance of retaining the position aiext season — if the company is then in existence. I wish him good luck, and if lio procures the position permanently 1 hope wo will have tihe luck of keeping him in his billet for more than one season, at anyi-ate.
