LONDON MARKET REPORT.

The Colonial Consignment and Distributing Company, Ltd., report under date February 7: — During the past week the trade at Smithfield has been moderate, and values have been maintained at last rates. There is a good demand for beef of all descriptions. Prime quality North American chilled is still very scarce, average hinds are making 5d to s:_d per lb, and 6d per lb is being paid for selected quarters, while fores are worth 3,d to 4d per lb The value of South American chilled is unchanged, quotations being 4d to 4_d per lb for hinds and 3,d t0.3„-d per lb for fores. English and Scotch mutton is selling at last week's prices. Home-killed lamb is not yet in sufficient evidence to give a close quotation. _„ __ New Zealand Mutton.-— The Tongariro is the only vessel which has arrived during the week, bringing 14, 236 carcases. The difference in price between New Zealand mutton and River Plate is still maintained, and under the circumstances the demand for the former is of a limited character. Prime Cantcrburys, of which there are very few obtainable, are being quoted at 4_d per lb, while North Islands are making 3d to 3|d per lb. Good Southlands are scarce, and may be quoted at about Jd above North Islands. Frozen Lambs.— Three shipments have arirvod from Australia, hinging 15,516 carcases and one from New Zealand with 10,600 carcases. There is practically no change to report with regard to Australian Lambs. ! Prime quality are very scarce indeed, j H„ile inferior grades aro plentiful, and prices are unchanged. The new j season's lambs from New Zealand j are now beginning to arrive. The \ prime quality are readily sold at 52d i to 6d per lb while the poorer grades j ate making 5d to 5Jd per lb. j Frozen Beef. — The only arrival is ! the Morayshire, bringing 12,925 j quarters from South America. The ; demand is steady and prices are firm, j Fores are again in greater request > than hinds and in consequence tlie former have increased in value while j the latter have declined proportionately. New Zealand hinds are . worth 3Jd and fores 2_d per lb, while ! Plate hinds are making 2|d- and fores ' 2|d per lb. j
