EDUCATION BOARD.

The usual monthly meeting of the* Wanganui Education Board was held last evening. Present.— Messrs Pirani (chair). Spurdle, Dixon, Fraser. Purnell, and Careon. Messrs Guthrie, Bennett, and Smith were granted leave of absence: Finance.— The cash statentent waa as follows: — General account, cr., £16,255 5s sd; maintenance account, liabilities £1034 9s 7d, cr., £486 7s Id: dr., £648 2s 6d. Resignations. — The following resignations were accepted:— A. Hanron (Ohingaiti), G. H. Powell (Stbney Greek). P. MoKensie (Taikorea), M. H. Stevens (St. John's). Leave of Absence. — Leave of absence was granted as follows :-*G. Kendall (Kawhatau), F. Baukman (Ashhurst), J. Fergusson (Makohau), C. E. Barry (College Street), E. H. Rodgers (Awahuri), G. S. Strack (Hawera), L. Spuatt (Hawera), H. E. Mahoney (Clydesdale), S. Strachan (Halcombe), L. J: McDonnell (Makirikiri). Appointments."— The following appointments were confirmed: — Miss Williams (Mokoia), Miss P. Ingpen (Mataroa), Miss Mahoney (Mangaweka), Mibb K. HiU (Auroa). Campbell Street.— From Committee, offering to finance drainage work provided amount ia refunded within . 12 months.— lt was resolved to apply to the Department for a grant for the work. M „ _ „ Pohangina.— From 0. H. § a^, le y.> desiring to purchase section 3, Block IV., Pohangina.— Resolved to reply that the Board has no power to sell: it can only lease the land. Halcombe. — From Commitijee, asking for a grant for road to the teachers' residence; also grant for tnmOT repairs. — It was resolved to grant £o for the road, and to reply that the other work must be done out of capitation. ■
