TARANAKI OIL.

[PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Nw Plymouth, May 28. The petroleum works at Moturoa are at an interesting stage. The cast of machinery required for cleaning No. 1 bore has arrived from Sydney. Not only is No. 2 bore down about to oil stratum, but at No. 3 it is also expected to strike petroleum very shortly. This bore is ndw down to a depth reached by Mr Samuel's Company of 1976 feet. Fragments of brass-pump and tow-packing, that formed part of the device used to keep the water out of the bore, have been brought to the surface by the drill. It has been said that the I bores were likely to meet impassable i obstructions near the bottom of this bore, but now it appears that the qb* structions, if here, nave been passed. No word has yet been received from Mr Simpson, the Taranaki Petroleum Company's boring expert, who was expected to arrive in Auckland yesterday from Canada. ♦
