The Department of Industries and Commerce have received the following cable from the High Commissioner, dated London, May 25th: — Mutton market steady, with better demand. Canterbury is quoted at 4d, North Island 3|d. Lamb market firm. There has been no change in prices. Beef market firm, owing to reduced supplies. Hind quarters are quoted at 3|d, fore quarters 3Jd. Butter market dull, Only fine quality in demand. Choicest New Zealand, 995: JDanish, 103; Siberian, 90. Cheese market steady, with no change in price. Hemp market quiet, with small business doing. Reports from Manilla indicate there is a disposition to sell for distant delivery. Hemp. —Some holders of hemp are forcing sales.
