CABLE NEWS. STRANGE MURDER.
AN AUCKLAND CLAIMANT TO PROPERTY. SHOOTS A WOMAN IN ENGLAND IBr Kmccthto TauoßAn*- GarnranJ [PBB FBBBB ASSOCIATION.] London, May 23. John Langford Crumpe, a septuagenarian, of Auckland, New Zealand, enquired at Southsea concerning property wherein he is interested. He claimed relationship to Mrs Crumpe, a barrister's widow, formerly of Tasmania, and interviewed her yesterday. The report of a firearm was heard, and a. servant rushing to the room, saw her fall dead, shot through the breast. Crumpe left the house and surrendered himself to the police. Hobart, May 23. The Mrs Crumpe mentioned in the cable was the widow of the late Moriarty Crumpe, who some yean ago practised in Hobart. His name was Moriarty, but on coming into Home property he had to assume the name of Crumpe. (Received May 24th, 8.37 a.m.) London, May 23. Crumpe has been remanded on the charge of murder. (Received May 24th, 10.27 a.m.) Hobart, May 24. Moriarty Crumpe left Tasmania 27 years ago, when he was bequeathed extensive property in Ireland. ■
