IMPORTANT DRAMATIC EVENT.
"THE FATAL WEDDING" AND THE "MIDNIGHT WEDDING." The advent of two such remarkable dramatic successes as "The Fatal Wedding" and "The Midnight Wedding " must certainly be regarded a red letter day in theatricals in this district. Throughout the length and breadth of Australia the name of Messrs Meynell and Gunn's famous "Fatal Wedding "is familiar. It has been given to few companies to attain such widespread popularity as that possessea by this big organisation. With "The Fatal Wedding" as their leading attraction they nave toured the length and breadth of the colony, and everywhere established records, and again more recently with the new military romantic drama "The Midnight Wedding" they have commenced another series of triumphs. With such a sterling actor as Mr Harcourt Beatty in the lead of a company of the highest excellence, an interpretation of artistic merit is assured. The two nights' season, which commences. at the Drill Hall, on Wednesday next, May 29th, will be fraught with exceptionally brilliant results. Amongst the many delightful features of "The Fatal Wedding" is the famous children's scene, which a leading paper thus comments on: — "Lastly is grand little Maisie Posner (Jessie). This dainty little person — with her archness, her tenderness, her whimsical performance in her role of 'The Little Mother'— is alone worth an evening at the theatre. No child actress seen these last few years can hold a candle to this clever child for natural; graceful, and convincing impersonation. But all the children are immense, from the grand little bit of a Queenie Williams to the clever Maggie and Flossie Dickenson. The Tin Can Band; a novelty of the most refreshing description, with the aforesaid babe Queenie to lead them with such self-possession and vigour and humour as would make a dyspeptic laugh. And all the time those other young people danced and acted and did their by-play so wonderfully well that one asked oneself how ever mere training could have done so much. But then it didn't. Miss Daisy Mendoza is a young marvel. Her singing of 'Josephine, My Jo' was better than that of many an applauded grown-up. This young lady will go far. Miss Maggie Dickenson ('The Kids from the Alley') and Miss Flossie Dickenson ('Madcap Dance') are also most promising young people; while several others by their clever acting and dancing, would have an encouraging word if one knew their names. 'The Fatal Wedding ' is itself good, but those children will long be a delightful and inspiring memory." * ' r The Midnight Wedding," the sensational military drama which is to follow, is thus described as a most powerful drama of the Prisoner of Zenda order, distinct with a charm of dramatic flavor. "The Midnight Wedding" is claimed to tell a story of rich romantic interest and military excitement. The plans for both plays is now open at Messrs Milson and Coles.
