FEILDING (15) v. PALMERSTON (0). Palmerston won the toss, and Feilding kicked off against a slight sou'wester. For a time the visitors pressed the local men, and gave the impression that they wonld take some shaking off. However, when the Feilding forwards warmed up, and the backs got going, a different aspect was put on the game. In the scrum the Palmerstonians beat Feilding practically throughout the game, but the forwards were not helped to any great extent by their backs. The Feilding backs, on the other hand, gave one of the best exhibitions of passing ever seen on a Feilding ground, and four of the five tries scored were the result. The first try came about by a pass from Watts to Rout, to Pirani, to Price, to Pirani, to Rout, the latter being frassed. Taylor and Watts were andy, and they took the ball over the line, the former scoring. After the kick out, Feilding again attacked, and Rout, after a feint, sent the ball out to Goodbehere, who, throwing off a couple of the opposing backs, scored Feilding's second try. Palmerston made several efforts to break through Feilding's defence, but the collaring was too sure, and when the whistle sounded for half time, play was in mid-field. The second spell was not long in progress before there was a scrum a few yards from Palmerston's line. From the pack the ball got into Watts' hands, and in a twinkling he had registered the third try for Feilding — three tries and no goal. Palmerston were now playing a great up-hill game, and got into Feilding's twenty-five, the home team having to force down. Play was once again in the visitors' twenty-five, and another score seemed certain. From the scrum Ongjey sent the ball to Rout, to Pirani, to Goodbehere, who scored near the comer — no goal. Shortly afterwards another passing rush ended in A. Price scoring the fifth try for Feilding. With ten minutes to go, Palmerston made another plucky effort to score, but the Yellow and Blacks were determined that their line would not bo crossed, the game ending — Feilding 15 (five tries), Palmerston nil. Mr W. McLean refereed, Mr S. Evans being unable to fulfil his appointment. KIA TOA (11) v. HUIMAI (0). This match, played at Palmerston, was well fought out. The superior backs of the home team, however, told the tale. Three tries were scored, one of which was converted. Mr Harper was referee.
