DEBATING SOCIETY.
« The adjourned meeting of the Feilding Literary and Debating Society was held last night, at the High School. The Rev. G. Bndri was voted to the chair. Officers were appointed as follows: — President, The .Mayor; vice-presi-dent, Rev. G. Budd; secretary and treasurer, Mr G. Fitzpatrick ; committee. Rev. Stent, Messrs T. West, and Tmgey. The secretary was instructed to write to the Borough Council and ask for the use of the Council Chamber for meetings every Tuesday evening, for the next four months, and to make inquiry as to charges. It was arranged, to hold the first meeting on 28th May, a 'debate to be held on the sub jecir-' 'That the Women of New Zealand be eligible to become members of Parliament." Mr Tingey will lead in the affirmative, and the Rev. W. P. Stent in the regative. On the following Tuesday evening, contributions to the journal will be taken, Mr T. Watson to be editor. For the week following, a debate on the subject — "That the ideal land policy is State Ownership of all Rural Lands, and the Freehold for Urban and Suburban ireas," will be taken, for which the leaders will be chosen later on. The meeting then rose.
