RONGOTEA.
(Our Own Correspondent.) Quite a flutter of envy was evident among the eligible young folks yesterday as thoy viewed the hitching up of two of the most highlyrespected residents who henceforth will run in double harness. A very ' good time was spent in the evening, and everybody wishes the bride and bridegroom long life and happiness. . This is the fourth of these events within a week. If this goes on we shall have our town re-named Gretna, ' and They will be taken in batches of ' a dozen. i We have had glorious rains, and the ,dt a in-cleaning, which should have ; been done long ago, is in most cases ' not commenced. How is it that the j contracts are not let sooner? The 1 wet has brought to our minds the neglected state of our roads. The j Council should put on more men at a i fair wage, and so get the rocks brokj vn, instead of having to pay for hundreds of yards of stone to throw I into the ditches, as they would make the best of metal. Then pay the men Is an hour, provide tools for I them, with 6d a day allowance for I horse. Then good men would take the job on and do justice to it; not as at present, take the job until they see something better. The roads in the Kairanga County are kept well with similar material. If the Health Inspector of this district would go as far as Taikorea his o 1 factory nerves would sustain a shock. There are several bridges on Coopf"'s Tipo v'lich iiord a handrail, as at present they are a positive source of danger.
