HOSPITAL BOARD.
The ordinary meeting of the Hos- 1 pital Board was held at Palmerston yesterday. Present : —Messrs J. Otr Wilson (chairman), F. L. Jackson, Kendall, Voss, Fowler, Matheson, Fitzherbert, Vincent, Pearoe. CORRESPONDENCE. From Mrs McGregor, wife of the late Dr. McGregor, acknowledging the Board's vote of condolence on the recent death Of her husband. From Dr. Valintine, acknowledging Board's congratulations upon hi 9 appointment as Inspector-General of Hospitals. From the Hawera Charitable Aid Board, stating that Mrs Franklin, of Ashhurst. was now at Hawera and enquiring it she was to be sent back there. From the Sanatorium for Consumptives 1 Committee, enquiring if the Board would be prepared to administer a sanatorium not established within the vicinity of the Hospital provided initial expenses were raised by subscriptoin. From S. T. Fitzherbert, that resolution passed on September 13th and December sth, with regard to the Consumptives' Sanatorium be rescinded. The resolution referred to dealt with the site of the sanatorium as recommended by the Board's executive, details of which have been published at various times. As is generally known, the reports I were in favour of erecting an annexe at the present hospital. From the Hospital medical staff, Drs Wilson and Martin, urging that the new ward at the hospital be completed as soon as possible. From Misses Muller, MacLellan and Houghton, applying for appointment as probationers. REPORTS. The Inspector of Works on the new ward reported progress during the month ending February 14th had been very disappoint!^, especially as the contractors had promised to make special efforts. They, no doubt, did their best, but owing to the scarcity of good plasterers they were unable to improve matters. Delay was also caused at the beginning of the month by bad work, and as Boon as good plasterers were obtained the work had to be done over again. Progress during the last few days had been more satisfactory, but even at the present rate it will take at least another month to complete the ward, independent of other alterations. Details were appended of the work done. The architect, Mr L. G. West, reporting upon the same work, said it would take at least six weeks to complete the work at the present late of progress, and he suggested special efforts to finish. The work in detail was satisfactory. GENERAL. Votes of thanks were accorded to the Manawatu A. and P. Association for recent donations to the Hospital funds. The names of probationers applying were added to the list. Names on the list have decreased lately. Representations were received from Dr. Martin upon the state in which the children of a man named Foster, a flaxmill contractor, at Linton, ,vere living. Dr. Martin's report upon the matter was practically endorsed by the Relievemg Officer in a report, but as it appeared the family was not in indigent circumstances, it was not a case for the Board but for the Health Officer. It was decided to inform the Hawera Charitable Aid Board that no responsibility or liability was recognised in connection with Mr Franklin, a late resident of Ashhurst. Mr Fitzherbert moved the rescission of resolutions carried at previous meetings of the Board with regard to the site of the sanatorium for consumptives. A lengthy discussion took place, and it was eventually decided to defer discussion on the subject till next meeting, and in the meantime the chairman and Mr Rutherfurd will draft a letter setting out the whole position taken up by the Board on the subject for presentation at next meeting, when, after approval by the full Board, it will be sent on to the cimmittee. Ordinary accounts were passed for payment .—-Standard .
