N.S.W. INDUSTRIAL STATISTICS.
Press Association — Copyright. Received July 14, 9.28 a.m. Sydney Saturday. The Government Statistician has prepared a statement showing the estimated value of the production from various industries, primary and secondary, in the State, for the year 1905. It shows a substantial increase over the preceding year, due partly to the fact that prices were nearly four per cent, higher than last year, but the greater part was undoubtedly due to increased production. The returns per head of population for all industries attained a very high figure, viz., £31 lls 4d, an increase of £4 6s 9d. The primary industries returned £24 8s 3d, an advance of £4 0s 7(1. The value of wool was £12,102,000, an increase of nearly £3,000,000. The actual production increased £58,000,---000. The increase in the value of dairying was about 13 per cent., though there was a slight decrease in production. The value of agricultural produce was £6,611,000, an increase of over 20 per cent. The mining industry improved in value by half-a-mil-lion. The increase in manufacturing industries was fairly satisfactory ; the factories employed 56,117 male and 16,058 female workers. The wages paid amounted to £5,191,000, an average per head of £1 15s less than in the previous year, said to be acaccounted for by the introduction of labor-saving machinery, and the substituting of boys for men, as well as the increase of women employees. The total output of the factories was £30,028,000.
