BRITISH ELECTIONS
Telegraph. Press Association. Copyright London, Jan 29. The Ceo feral Workers' Unemployed Committee is organising a demon stration, to take place at Hyde Park on the 12th, to urge voting an Imperial expenditure to enable local bodies to employ the unemployed. Mr Sydney Buxton, London, said it was not difficult to say what the Government would do with their majority. In the immediate future it was intended to put elementary education on a national basis, and also to deal with trades unions funds. It was desired later to deal with the many social and labour questions before them. They had a substantial radical basis, but they must beware of the dangers of shipwreok on a rock whereon they were previously wrecked, viz., trying to run too many horses abreast. There must be give and take, but in view of fhe Government's large majority, the House of Lords was less likely than formerly to rejeot or mutilate measures than might be anticipated. Bills carried in the House of Commons would have to in some way or other receive the assent of the Lords. The final results are— Liberals 876, Labourites 51, Nationalists 88, Unionists 152.
