Japs Placate Chinese.
Fatal Railway Accident. 30 people Killed and 57 Injured. Received May 20, 9.15 a.m. London, May 19. The Japanese secretly placarded Niuchwang, including the Russian quarters, warning,the Chinese not to fear their coming, and asking them to collect transport carts and mules. The Chinese at Fenghuencheng are indignant at the Russians fleeing' without honouring their huge paper issue. The Japanese are still removing mines from Kerr Bay, but have already safeguarded navigation . The Japanese near Kaichau captured a commissariat tram, restoring carts and animals to the native drivers. Owing to a subsidence of the line, through rain, the train northward of Mukden was derailed, and 80* people killed and 57 injured. The Russians arriving at Chefoo report a disaster to two Japanese warships. This possible refers to the Miyaka and a torpedoer at Kerr Bay. -
