MASTERTON MUNICIPAL AFFAIRS.

Telegraph Press Association Copyright, Masterton, This Day. In the Borough Council at last night's meeting, a strange position cropped up with regard to the loam for the completion of the drainage system. It appeared that the bank had temporarily advanced £8000 conditionally on the Government agreeing to increase tha amount of original loan by that sum. All of the necessary formalities had been complied with by the Council except furnishing the requisite evidence of the same to the Treasury, and without such the money cannot be advanced. This will now have to be* done with the least possible delay as; repayment is due to the bank next; month. In connection with the fire on Christmas morning, the official report furnished at last night's meting of the Borough Council referred to the inexplicably insufficient pressure during the early stage of the fire. The Turncock has since resigned. The whole matter of the needed reforms with regard to Fire Brigade matters will be considered at a special meeting of the Council. The Mayor moved that the Treasury be asked to grant a loan of £5500 under the Public Health Act for the purpose of extending th* drainage as required by Dr Valentine, to be carried out.
