ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.

Telegraph Press Association Copyright Auckland, June 9. A native named Takirau, was accidentally scalded to death at Tokaanu, at the south end of Lake Taupo, yesterday morning. Whilst going to bathe, he fell into a boiling mud spring alongside the path, and was with difficulty extricated, owing to the treacherous nature of the ground. He lingered until about noon in in- , tence agony, as the whole of his body below the neck was terribly scalded. Inspector Cullen has received a report from Aratapu, regarding the supposed drowning of William Keane, fireman employed on the s.s. Ethel. It appears that on the night of June 4th, Keane left the steamer at the Dargaville wharf, to take a keel boat to another wharf about a quarter of a mile away. Captain Walker went along to the wharf to help Keane to haul the boat up, and when about half way he thought he heard a groan and a faint " cooee." The captain aroused the crew, who searched, but neither man nor boat could be found. This Day. The inquest on James Kennedy, who died from injuries received at Lurnham School, showed that Kennedy and Malcolm were fast friends, and the stabbing was purely accidental, therefore, no blame was attachable to Malcolm.
