A CRIMINAL SETTLEMENT.
Telegraph Press Association. Copyright Sydney, May 1. The Genoa newspaper, Caffaro, states that Italy intends acquiring an island in Australian waters to establish a penitentiary colony for the transportation of confirmed criminals and dangerous persons hitherto condemned to solitary confinement. The same news is published in some French journals.
