A SERIOUS CHARGE.

Telegraph Press Association Copyright Timaku, April 15. At the S.M. Court to-day two men, named Heron and Carr, were committed for trial for robbery with violence. The charge was that about midnight on the 25th ult. the two men stuck up an elderly man named Hanna and emptied his pockets, and on his recognising Heron and telling him so, Heron struck him, knocking out several teeth. The evidence showed that Heron was very drunk. Carr was not so, but the defence in Carr's case was that he was merely a bystander and not a participator. Great interest is taken in the case, as Carr is a Temuku Borough Councillor, and Heron is a well-to-do young farmer. Bail was granted of £ 100 each, with two sureties of £50. The remand bail had beed £500.
