In order to pacify the proBoers, President Roosevelt sanctioned an enquiry as to whether British camps have been established in New Orleans and elsewhere for the pni" chase of remounts. The representatives of the Southern Western States are indignant, and have declared that if the purchase of horses and mules is stopped these States will lose several hundred thousand dollars monthly. 4t the instance of some Congressmen, fearing to lose their seats, President Roosevelt recalled the federal remount inspectors.
