PRINCESS OF WALES.
A Narrow Escape. The Princess of Wales had a very narrow escape from personal injury on February 26th. With the Prince her Royal Highness was present in the afternoon at Shire Horse Show at the Agricultural Hall. After spending over an hour in the Royal box the Prince and Princess descended to the judging ring, where her Royal Highness presented the principal prizes to the winners. The cheering which followed the presentation by the Princess of the challenge cup to Mr Forshaw startled the winning stallion, "Haxton Tom." The animal became very restive, and, swerving to one side, knocked the lid of the gold cup out of Mr Forshaw's hand. It was then led down the ring, but as the Royal party were leaving the enclosure the cheering was renewed. In a moment the animal got almost beyond the control of the groom, and made a dash for the exit, through which the Prince and Princess, with the other members of the party were just about to pass. They appeared to be totally unaware of their danger until the shouts of warning from all parts of the building drew their attention to it. Then the Princess, who was nearest the animal, realised her danger, and stopped short. The stallion rushed by her Royal Highness, missing her by a very few feet. It was only by the skill of the groom, who managed to pull the animal to one side as it dashed by the Royal party, that a very serious and deplorable accident was averted.
