Palmerston Hospital Board.
The monthly meeting of the Palmerston Hospital Board was held yesterday. Present — Messrs Kendall (chairman), Park, Mowlem, Dickin, Wilson, Pearce, Luxford, Pleasants, and Williamson. The following correspondence was received and dealt with : — From Kiwitea County Council forwarding statement of the amount expended on charitable aid to Nov., 1900, received. From A. Williamson, Halcomhe, asking for information re terms on which members of Friendly Societies were admitted to the hospital. — The usual charge of 8s 6d per day to be made. j From Laura Ibbetson, of Wellington, applying for the position of probationer at the hospital. From T. R. Walton, thanking the hospital staff for their kindness and attention during his illness. — Received. The Executive reported that it was advisable to raise the nurses' salaries at the hospital to £50 per annum. Mr Park moved that the recommendation be accepted, pointing out that all the neighboring Boards paid the higher salary, and it was impossible to obtain nurses for Palmerston. Mr Mowlem seconded the motion, which was carried. The Executive also reported that tenders had been accepted for supplies to the hospital. Nurse Edwards was appointed to the vacancy on the staff. It was decided to have the lighting of the operating room improved. Accounts to the amount of £805 9s 2d were passed for payment. — Standard.
