Relief of Lady smith.
o ARRANGEEMENTS FOR ITS CELEBRATION IN FEILDING. A meeting of citizens was held in the Borough Chambers this morning to make arrangements for the celebration of the relief of Ladysmitb. The Rev. Innes Jones occupied the chair, Mr J. W. B, Trewin was appointed secretary. It was decided to hold a patriotic demonstration, a procession to leave the Volunteer Hall at 7 o'clock this evening, and march through various streets to the Square. Speeches will be made from the fire engine by Messrs F. Y. Lethbridge, W. A. L, Bailey, E. Goodbehere and T. Watson. It was decided to ask Mr G. Bartholomew to arrange for a choir to sing patriotic songs. The Several bands, Manchester Rifles Friendly Societies, and School children will form the procession. Resolyed that Messrs Watson, Richmond, Carty, and the Rev. Innes Jones be an executive committee to arrange I matters in connection with the demonstration. Resolved, that the owners of business places be asked to light their premises for a couple of hours during the evening. Resolved, that Major Liddle and Captain Kirton act as marshals for the procession. Those present subscribed one shilling each for payment of expenses, The executive committee met later and arranged a programme for the demonstration. Circulars arc being printed and distributed throughout the district to-day in order that everyone may have an opportunity of participating in the proceedings. Arrangements have been made to avoid clashing with the Horticultural Show this evening. The procession will move oil' as early as possible and the proceedings are expected to conclude shortly after eight o'clock.
