A petition against the elecion of Mr Ja*nes McKay ns a cnembpr of rbe Buller. county Council, on the grounds that two ratepayers who voted did so without the necessary qualifications, was heard before Mr Hawkins, S.M; After much evidencs, the Magistrate ruled that one of the ratepayers was not entitled to vote. An ' examination of the voting paper? revealed the fact that. an illegal vote was cast fir Mr McKay, and when -deducted Mr ' McKay and Feddersen were equal. The ! Magistrate therefore ordered a new election. - :
