Palmerston Hospital Board.

Manawatu County Council.

The ordinary meeting of the above was held yesterday. Present — Messrs Kendall (chairman) Ransome, Montague, Letbbridge, Ravenhill, Booth, Park and Hammond. Correspondence was received : — From the Treasury, stating that sabsidy atnovnting to i>246 15b 6d had been remitted to tb« Board's credit. From Wellington and Wairarapa Charitable Aid Board, stilting that a conference of Charitable Aid Board representatives would be held in Wellington on 18th October.— During the discussion it was explained that the conference was to be held to consider the proposal to provide the revenue for charitable aid by making a charge on the consolidated fund.- The Chairman was appointed to attend the conference and oppose the proposal on the ground that the present ■ystem, a* administered, was move economical. — Ie was understood that Mr Lethbridgo would ac company the Chairman, if convenient. From Feilding borough Council, stating that Mr Arnott, of Feildipe, wantod to return to Wellington hospital for eye treatment. — The Secretary and Chair man were appointed to make the neces sary arrangements. The Secretary reported that Dr McGregor visited the Hospital on Tuesday morning, and be expressed his extreme satisfaction with the manner in which he found ihe ;nstitutjon.— Palmerston Times.

Raine applying for sufficient i i iping to mak<3 a culvert over the Council's drain on the Town Belt adjoining his property.— Request not granted. From Rang tikei County Council, sending particulars of wire cable used for the ] iulls Ferry. The question of cylinders or piles for the Bulls bridge would be considered when the plans were submitted to the Government for approval and that they did not intend to take any steps with regard to the bridge, until the ntnount of assistance from the Government was ascertained. Request was also made to have the obstruction caused by the old wire rope (lying in the river at Scott's Ferry) removed. From Traffic Manager, Wanganui, notifying under what conditions and charges the Council's ballast train would be allowed on the Government line between Foxton and Carnarvon, and suggesting that contract be pushed through as quickly as possible. From W. A. Sandilands, claiming the sum of £~> a?, compensation for injuries received by a horse owned by D. Younger. The injury was received by the horse putting its foot through a culvert on the Awahuri-Feilding road. — The Council decided not to recognise the claim. From Wellington Harbor Board re the proposed bill for the amendment of the constitution of the Wellington Harbor Board. — Letter received. From A. Holmes, calling the Council's attention to the condition of a drain on the Rongotea Longburn road. The drain in question was silted np during the r scent flood. From C. Bray, reporting that the contractor for building the Mangaone bridge was making satisfactory progress with bis contract. A progress payment for .£l7O was passed. From A. C. Amon, offering a boat suitable for requirements at Scott's ferry fnr £8. From A. Jonson, stating that he had finished and launched the punt at Scott's ferry ; he recommended that lever flaps be placed on the pnnt instead of thoso constructed. From C. It. S. McDonell, ferryman, reporting that various improvements, etc., were required at the ferry and cottage. The overseer was instructed to have things put in good repair. From P. Daniel offering a boat suitfor the ferry for £5 and the wire rope lately used by him for the sum of £1 10s. Mr Daniel also requested the Council to fence No. 2 reserve, tbat being necessary as soon as the punt was in working order. From E. W. Mills and Co.. giving list of prices of gear required for working the punt at Scott's Kerry. From the Seddon Reception Committee, inviting the Chairman and Councillors to the reception of the Hon. R. J. Seddon. From Gamman and Co., Foxton, sending price lint of iron bark, matai and totara timber suitable for bridge and culvert work. From J. Beale, Palmers ton N., asking that a man be sent down to replace three small bridges washed oat on the Main Drain Road. From FeLding Borough Council asking if the Council would be willing to contribute half of the cost of formation etc., of South St., the boundary of the Borough and County. The Council decided to bold the matter over until Cr Wilson's return, as the road was a district one and no riding funds available. From Treasury notifying tbat a voucher was passed for .£BOO on account of loan for re building the Bulls bridge. Mr Tbos. Bowe waited on the Council with reference to the rates on the Wesleyan Block, Motoa recently occupied by him ; also re entrance into the same property. It was decided to charge Mr Bowe with the rates from the time he leased the property and he was in structed to arrange with Cr Strang re right of entrance. The application of Mr R. Perritt for transfer of nection 42, Douglas Block, to the name of A. Broad belt was granted. C. Lumaden's tender of £29 10s for making embankment at ScotU' Ferry was accepted. It was resolved to invite tenders for forming and metalling on the River Bank road in the Carnarvon Riding. Also tbat tenders be called for formation of Barr's Eoad, Motoa. Tenders for both contracts to be in by next meeting of the Conceit. The usual monthly reports from the Overseer, Tram-Mapager and Treasurer were read and considered. Accounts amounting to £556 18s were passed for payment.
