The Native Contingent's Return Home.
0 (Per Press Association.) Wellington, This Day. The native contingent at the invitation of the natives of Greytown, went to the Wairarapa today, and were entertained at the native village of Papawai. Mrs and Miss Seddon, Mr Carroll, and the Mayors of Petone and Palmerston were among the visitors. The Mayor of Greytown and Mr Buchanan, M.H.R., welcomed the visiors. Mr Carroll also speke and said there was do prouder man in the colony at the present moment than himself. The performance of the contingent bad rebounded to the credit of the colony and themselves. They had acted as gentlemen and Rangitiras, and now practically had come to the point when their dispersal would take place. Colonel Pitt and Captain Tumuranga returaed thanks, the latter saying a graft of the two races bad taken place, and he was going to agitate a native Volunteer corps throughout the colony. The day was then spent in feasting, dancing and cheering.
