McLean, in reply to Mr Sandiland's letter on the proposed Municipal buildings, 'will appear to-morrow. If Cheltenham goes on progressing at its present rate, it is expected a Borough Council will be required to manage its affairs in a very few years. The sale of ironmongery held last Saturday will be continued by Mr Carr in the Assembly Rooms on Saturday next commencing at 12.80 p.m. The secretary of the Feilding Football Club desires us to acknowledge receipt of a guinea each from Messrs Wm. L. Bailey and E. Goodbcliere, two of that Club's Yice-Prcsidcnts. The Bon Marchc will be found replete with all the latest novelties in dress materials and trimmings, millinery, mantles and macintoshes. First class goods at the most moderate of prices. The following presentations to members of the Manchester Rifles will be made on the Queen's Birthday : — Watch given by Mr H. Bastings, won by Vol. James Scott ; a medal donated by Dr Charlton, won bj^ Vol. Bilderbeck, and several others, the firing for which is not yet completed. The articles of agreement signed by Messrs Halcoinbe aud Sutherland are very stringent and should insure good sport. The match is to be final, and after the men have come together there will be no spell until a fall is gained. The winner takes the door money and pays all expenses. To-day Mr E. Goodbehere offers for sale, cheap and on very easy terms, one of the best farms in the Apiti Block. The land is well fenced, grassed and watered, situated just opposite the new cheese factory now in course of erection. A quantity of well seasoned sawn timber on the ground is also for sale at very low rates. The usual weekly meeting of the 1.0.0. T., was held in the Foresters' Hall last night. There were 35 members present, and two candidates were initiated. The election of officers for the ensuing term took place. The following being elected, viz.: — Lodge Deputy, Bro J. Minor details in connection with the social and dance to be held after the road race were arranged. Tickets for the same may be obtained from any of the committee. A certain well-known colonial school inspector once entered a Dunedin school, on inspection bent, in his customary lordly manner, bouncing into the headmaster's room with his hat on and without any such foolish ceremony as knocking for admission, Having concluded his examination of the room, he requested to be shown the assistant master's room. Mr J. McKerrow is now visiting the I Hawke's Bay district with the view of j inspecting several properties now under offer to the Government under the Land for Settlements Act. A gentleman of high standing in London, writing to a friend in Auckland about the Waihi mine, under date of March 28, said the Waihi shares are sought after. A large operation has been done with the Rothschilds. They bonght 500 shares at a trifle over £8, taking a call of 10,000 more at £1 during the month of April. These shares arc understood to be for the Paris market.
