Manawatu Road Board

* The usual monthly meeting of the above was held at Palmerston yesterday. Present— Wardens Knight (in the chair), Stevens and Stubbs. The following correspondence wus read :— From Mr J. Munro, requesting that the name of Mr H. Derby be inserted on the rate roll in lieu of bis for sections No. 1831 to 1338, Bunnythorpe—Carried. From Secretary Hospital Board, stating that election for members takes place at Feilding on the 22nd inst. From Railway Commissioners, objecting to hand over a width of 80 links along the Palmerston -Bunnythorpe railway road, but agreeing to hand over, a width of 60 links. The remaining 20 links might be required for railway purposes. From Mr W. Stubbs, calling attention to the state of the Bunnytborpe-Kairanga drain, and the very extensive damage it was causing to his land. He would like the members of the Board to inspect the damage. He did not wish to enter into litigation, but something must at once be done to remedy the grievance. The communication received from the Railway Commissioners, re the handing over of sixty links on tbe Bunnythorpe* Railway road, was considered. The chairman suggested that the offer be accepted, and tbe road be repaired during the summer months.— Suggestion adopted. On the motion of Warden Stevens, seconded by tho chairman, the clerk was instructed to sue for all outstanding rates at once, Mr Baker waited on the Board with his account in connection with the recent case Grant v, Manawatu Road Board. The total legal charges, including disbursements and witnesses expenses, amounted to £603. Mr Baker stated that the Board's out of pocket expenses would amount to between £200 and £300. After discussion Mr Baker agreed to reduce his account against the Board by the sum of £10. Warden Stubbs moved, That Mr Carinody be informed that unless he signs for the Bunnytborpe-Kairanga road contract within three days, and agrees to finish it in equal to the original time, fresh tenders be called— Seconded by the chairman and carried.
