As Others See Us.

One of the prettiest, liveliest, and most prosperous townships along the West Coast of this island is Foilding, wtiich is nowadays taking a new lease of life and going ahead still more soundly and surely owing to the development of the fine country at its back. I am glad to see that the progress of the place finds practical exposition by the daily issue of its well'Cduducted newspaper, the Feilding Star, which, until this mouth, was but a tri- weekly, but which will now shine every afternoon, with, I trust, unfailing regularity, and with great benefit both to its proprietors and readers. Their new departure will, I hope, be a great success. •• Scrutator " goes out of his way to wish the Star all sorts of good luck, for the speoial reasou that, although an Opposition paper, it sets an oxample which might well be copied by many of its contemporaries of like political color, in that it can treat political subjects and politicians to which and to whom it in opposed with fairnens and courtesy. There is nl»o a very genial and healthy humor frequently apparent in the Star, ffpd many a stray " par." has " Srutntor >? bagged in the Star preserves in his time with feelings of gratitude, for as a rale the country paper ia a portentously solemn sheet, in which humour, unless of a pecuhaily elephantine character, is only too con* spicuous by its absence. Long may the Stab twinkle. — New Zealand Mail.
