CARTING WOOL.
TO THE EDITOR OF THE STAR. Sir — Would you kindly permit me space in your valuable paper to bring forward the subject of wool-carting, to the public. It has been a customary thing of late years for the carters to try and make their harvest during the wool season ; but as one of our local firms of storekeepers are sending their store carts away empty into the back blocks, and load wool, and land it on the trucks at the railway station at a far lower figure than the present charges, how can our local carters, who have horses and drays, compete against such people as these? No doubt this local firm has a large roof over their heads at present, and no doubt further on we shall see great opposition in other things than the wool-carting. May I trust that the firm, and also the readers of your valuable paper, will sympathise with me in writing this short letter to the public. I am, &c, E. Robinson, j
