The Feilding Star. TUESDAY, JULY 9, 1889. Bush Fires

Mr Marchant's Bush Firing Bill is of especial interest and importance to many bush settlers in this district. It empowers County Councils to appoint, by special order, a " burning season" in each year, during which period it shall be lawful for the owner of felled bush to fire it, provided he gives written notice to all his neighbours within, a radius of one mile, of his intention bo to do, and the day upon which he intends to u burn." The Bill is not to be held to be effected by the Malicious Injuries to Property Act. The owner of felled bush is not to be held liable for damage caused to his neighbours' properties by the accidental spreading of the fire, provided the necessary steps as provided by the Act, have been taken by him.
