The Dog Tax

It will be good news to owners of dogs in the Borough when they read the resolution passed at the Council meeting on Thursday night. Under the new aystf m adopted on that occasion the annual tax for dog registration has been fixed at ten shillings p"r head ; but if registration is effected in the currency of the first 3 months in the year a rebate of five shillings will be made, and between three and six months a rebate of two shillings and sir pence. Dogs registered after the expiration of six months will then have to pay full rates. Of course owners of unregistered dogs will still remain liable to be sued at any time in accordance with the provisions of the Act relating thereto, and none of the penalties will be mitigated to offenders, while those who are desirous of complying with the law will now receive a direct encouragement, and actual monetary benefit, by the fact of their registering their dogs forthwith. The Town Clerk has been appointed Dog Tax Collector, and that is a sufficient guarantee that the duty will be faithfully and efficiently carried out.
