The Feilding Star. TUESDAY, JULY 1, 1884. The Manawatu Seat

This evening the electors of the Mana- ' watu will have an opportunity of hearing from Mr Maoabthub his political views and opinions. Our readers are already aware how thoroughly this gentleman is wrapped up in the j welfare of the Manawatu. His expe- ! riences of the wants and capacities of the district, gained while in the County Council, would Btand him in good stead in Parliament when any question affecting them arose. He has already, on all occasions of need, shown himself to be keenly alive to all local interests or questions. He has taken an active and prominent part in every movement where the interests of the settlers were likely to be benefitted. He has shown that he is eminently fitted to represent the electors in any capacity. On the other hand, we are certain that he would never accept the position of a mere delegate to Parliament, while his independance and force of character would always prevent him becoming a blind follower of any party or Ministry, He has the courage of his opinions. We were not surprised to see that a vote of confidence was passed in him at Palmerston last night, and in Feiiding to-night we expect to see a similar ending to the meeting. Electors should bear this important fact in mind during the . coming contest — that Mr Macarthub is a local man, who has tho courage, tact, and ability to faithfully represent them and guard their interests in Parliament. A large majority of the electors have already declared their intention to support Mr Macarthur as a local man, and we hope that no " political adventurers " from the outside will be permitted to disturb the unanimity of feeling, which has been ! growing on the electors for some time past, in the principal centres of the
