A gr-fit piinic occurred, recently , in rlie Fraucisc-.m Clnuch-in Vienna. A larg-e rojj»re!>aM.i:i had ass-.miblert, as there was a High Ma>s in celebration of rhe Emperor's name day and of the 700th anniversary of the Franciscans. In the middle of the service a wreath of d-ii-d flowers in* front of the altar ■lccideutally caught fire, anu the sparks reached the : congregation. • .Numbers ro-e and rushed to the only oxit, and there wns great crushing, screaming", and confusion, which in a lew seconds would have led to a serious calamity but for the presence of mind or the officiating priest, who continued the service while one of the assistant clergy easily, extinguished the wreath. The danger was all the greater because the church was huug with decoratsons of a very inflammable character. — Home paper. '
