CHEERIO DANCE
PVT. C. HAYWARD ENTERTAINED PRESENTATION MADE Private G. Hayward was the guest at a dance arranged in his honour by the Pokeno Patriotic Committee. Harrison’s popular orchestra was in attendance, and Mr 11. L. Richards ably carried out the duties of master of ceremonies. A Monte Carlo waltz was won by Miss. .). Rodgers and Mr R. Hillings. The speakers were Mr Richards and Mr A. Cummer, who, on behalf of. the residents of the district, wished the guest the best of luck and a speedy return to Pokeno. Private Hayward was presented with a cheque from the people. The ladies’ committee presented Private Hayward with a parcel of knitted comforts, while flowers were presented for Mrs Hayward, and to Private Hayward’s sister who took the place of his mother who was unable to be present. Private Hayward returned thanks and appreciation for the gifts. All joined in singing for. “He’s a Jolly Good Fellow.”
A sumptuous supper was provided by the ladies. Dancing was continued until a late hour, and a happy evening ended with the singing of “Auld Lang Syne.”
